Senegal are on course to qualify for the quarter-finals despite entering the break 1-0 down against the UAE at the City of Coventry Stadium.

Senegal are on course to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Olympic Games despite entering the break 1-0 down against the United Arab Emirates at the City of Coventry Stadium.

The African nation can guarantee progression to the last eight with a win tonight, but will also advance if Uruguay lose to Team GB at the Millennium Stadium.

UAE are already out of the competition, but look set to leave on a positive note despite being dominated for large periods of the first half.

Ismaeil Matar netted the minnows' goal after 22 minutes, but that was their only opportunity in an opening 45 minutes packed with Senegal chances.

New West Ham United signing Mohamed Diame, Stephane Badji and Pape Souare were all guilty of squandering chances to equalise before the break.

Diame in particular was a threat as he went close again in the latter stages of the period, before having a shot saved by UAE keeper Eisa Khalid in stoppage time.
