Micky Adams: 'Tranmere Rovers must build on win'

Tranmere Rovers boss Micky Adams believes that his side have set their benchmark after beating Portsmouth last weekend.

Tranmere Rovers manager Micky Adams has indicated that he was relieved to finally record his first league win in charge at Prenton Park.

Adams had secured victories in the FA Cup and Football League Trophy since joining the club in October, but after witnessing Rovers defeat Portsmouth on Saturday, he believes that his team have set the benchmark as they try to move clear of the League Two drop zone.

The 53-year-old told BBC Radio Merseyside: "We've set our standards now and now we need to kick on.

"When you're a new manager, you want that first league victory as soon as you can.

"My record at the moment is pretty good I think, and if we hadn't got a win today we move onto next week."

The win over Portsmouth has left Tranmere within three points of Carlisle United, who sit in 22nd place.
