Togo boss to stop selecting Emmanuel Adebayor after no-show

Togo drop Emmanuel Adebayor

Togo boss Tom Saintfient has said that he will not select Emmanuel Adebayor again after the striker failed to respond to an international call-up last week.

Saintfient described the Spurs forward as 'a bad date', following his no-show for Togo's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Djibouti.

"If you are dating a woman who does not want to respond positively, then you must look for another woman," Saintfiet told reporters.

"For me, it is clear that it is a player who does not want to play for his country anymore and he does not want his country to be qualified for the next African Cup of Nations.

"He has agreed to play against Liberia, and not against Djibouti. For me, it is not the duty of a player to decide against which opponent he will play."

Adebayor has not been selected in Spurs' Premier League or Europa League squad, and is in the final year of his £100,000-a-week contract with the club.
