Sydney FC's winning streak was extended to four matches on Saturday as the Sky Blues recorded a home victory over Newcastle Jets.

Joel Chianese put the hosts ahead in first-half stoppage time, before Serbia international Ranko Despotovic made sure of the points on the hour by netting his second goal in as many games.

Sydney climb to second in the A-League table and are now just three points behind leaders Brisbane Roar.

Meanwhile, Newcastle remain fifth after their three-game winning run came to an end.
