Sunderland have announced the signing of midfielder Granit Xhaka from Bayer Leverkusen.
As per Sky Sports News, the former Arsenal midfielder has joined Sunderland for an initial £13m, plus a further £4.3m in add-ons.
Xhaka, who has signed a three-year contract, will add a wealth of Premier League experience to Sunderland’s squad after making over 200 appearances during his seven-year stay at Arsenal.
“I’m very proud to be here,” Xhaka told Sunderland’s official website. “When I spoke to the club, I was excited and I felt the energy, and the mentality that all the people and players have. It’s exactly what I wanted, and I have a very good feeling.
“We are back to where this club needs to be, and we want to stay here to write our own history. I feel that I’m ready to help the team with my experience but with quality as well.
“We need to find ourselves on the pitch, but I don’t think this will be a big problem. It’s been a long time to wait, but I’m here now and I’m looking forward to it.”
The move brings an end to Xhaka’s successful stint at Leverkusen, where he won the Bundesliga title, the DFB Pokal and the German Super Cup.
Switzerland international Xhaka will add to Regis Le Bris’s central midfield options, which also include the likes of Habib Diarra, Enzo Le Fee, Noah Sadiki and Dan Neil.
Ipswich agree record-breaking Hackney deal
In the Championship, Ipswich Town have reportedly agreed a record-breaking deal with Middlesbrough for the signing of Hayden Hackney.
The Tractor Boys have already bolstered their midfield with the addition of Azor Matusiwa from French side Rennes.
However, they appear keen to sign another midfielder following the recent departure of their captain Sam Morsy, who completed a permanent move to Kuwait SC.
According to Sky Sports News, Ipswich are in a strong position to sign Hackney after reaching an agreement with Middlesbrough.
The update claims that the two sides have agreed a deal worth more than £20m, which would break the current Championship transfer record.
Ipswich are now in talks with Hackney’s representatives over personal terms as they look to push the deal over the line.
The England international has been linked with a switch to the Premier League, but he appears to be on course to join a club who have aspirations of securing an immediate return to the top flight following their relegation last season.
Wrexham make record Broadhead proposal
While Hackney could be on his way to Ipswich, Nathan Broadhead may leave Portman Road before the transfer window closes at the start of September.
According to The Sun, Wrexham have made a £7m approach to prise Broadhead away from Kieran McKenna’s side.
If agreed, the deal would smash Wrexham’s current transfer record, which belongs to the £2m signing of Sam Smith earlier this year.
Ipswich had no plans to offload the 27-year-old this summer, but they appear willing to reconsider their stance for a significant offer.
Broadhead has scored 23 goals and provided 12 assists in 83 competitive appearances since joining Ipswich from Everton.
After winning three consecutive promotions, Wrexham’s transfer business shows that they have ambitious goals for their first season in the second tier since 1981-82.
