Tony Pulis wants new Jonathan Woodgate deal

Pulis wants new Woodgate deal

Stoke City manager Tony Pulis has hinted that Jonathan Woodgate could be offered a new contract even if he doesn't invoke a clause in his current deal.

The 32-year-old would be given fresh terms automatically if he plays three more games this season.

However, Pulis believes that the defender may be offered a new contract on his own merit.

"If he doesn't get the games in that doesn't mean we aren't going to offer him a new contract," he said.

"Woody has been brilliant, playing in a lot more games than people probably thought he could play, and he's good to have around.

"So let's get the season out of the way and then we'll sit down and discuss everything with [chairman] Peter [Coates] and the family."

Woodgate moved to the Britannia Stadium from Tottenham Hotspur in July 2011.
