Peter Crouch eyeing England call-up

Peter Crouch has told England boss Gareth Southgate that he is still available for selection after netting Stoke City's winner in their Premier League clash with Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

Crouch has not started a Premier League game for Stoke this season, but has scored twice off the bench - including an 85th-minute effort in the 2-1 victory over Southampton.

The 36-year-old has not turned out for England since 2010, but the experienced forward has told Southgate that he has not yet retired from international football.

"I am very pleased to get the goal and it was backs to the wall at the end. I am still knocking on the door, I still feel fit and I want to start games but I am realistic," Crouch told BBC Sport.

"Training grounds are a dark place when you lose before an international break. There is so much time to think and reflect. I have not actually retired from international football so hopefully I have made an impact [for a call-up]."

Crouch scored 22 times in 42 appearances for England between 2005 and 2010.
