Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland 'out of Euro 2016'

Jack Butland 'out of Euro 2016'

The Football Association has confirmed that England goalkeeper Jack Butland has broken his ankle, all but ruling him out of Euro 2016.

The Stoke City stopper suffered the injury in the first half of last night's friendly win over Germany moments before Toni Kroos fired the home side in front.

Butland was stretchered off the field in Berlin after he decided not to kick the ball out and receive treatment, with Germany regaining possession and Kroos beating the hampered keeper from distance at his near post.

In a statement tonight, the FA said that Butland had broken a bone in his ankle and the expected recovery period for such an injury is three months, meaning that Butland would only be able to play in the latter part of Euro 2016 and therefore will not be taken by Roy Hodgson.

Butland added on Twitter: "Today's scan revealed I've fractured my ankle, absolutely devasted! I'll be doing everything I can to get back fit as soon as I can! 👊🏼🙏"🏼

The injury also means that Butland will not play again for Stoke this term.
