Stevenage earn vital point against Wolverhampton Wanderers

Stevenage hold Wolverhampton Wanderers to a goalless draw in their League One match at the Lamex Stadium.

Stevenage have picked up a crucial point in their battle to avoid relegation courtesy of a goalless draw against League One leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Luke Freeman had the first sight of goal for the home side, but after exchanging passes with Lucas Akins, he fired a strike over the bar.

Wolves threatened with a chance of their own as Leon Clarke latched on to Nouha Dicko's knockdown on the edge of the box, before firing in an effort that was saved by Chris Day.

They came even closer moments later when Dicko's shot was parried by the keeper and Clarke put his header wide from the rebound.

At the start of the second half Freeman worked himself an opening after cutting in from the right before smashing an effort just over.

On the hour-mark the hosts again came close when Jimmy Smith got on the end of Francois Zoko's pass and fired in a shot that Carl Ikeme kept out.

Clarke wasted a big opportunity to give his side the lead with 20 minutes left to play, as he was sent through on goal before seeing his attempt saved by Day.

Lee Evans saw a long-range effort kept out in the closing stages, but neither side could force a winner and the game ended in a draw.
