The Buddies have won only twice in the league this season.

Simeon Jackson believes St Mirren require a “bit of cuteness” in their bid to get away from the bottom of the Ladbrokes Premiership table.

The Buddies have struggled to find momentum all season despite replacing boss Alan Stubbs with Oran Kearney in September.

Saints let slip a first-half lead at Livingston last Saturday to lose 3-1 and Dundee’s draw against Rangers the following day meant Kearney’s side dropped to the bottom on goal difference.

Ahead of the visit of Aberdeen on Saturday, the 31-year-old forward, who signed from Walsall in September, insisted that he can see progress being made but claims there is one missing ingredient.

“I think a bit of cuteness at times to make sure we get a result,” Jackson said.

“We look at performances and stuff we are working on and we haven’t found that exact consistency to keep turning out the results and performances but we keep going.

“We have gone ahead in games. The Hibs game was a really clever game, we managed it well but we didn’t do so well against Livi, going one-nil up and letting them back into the game.

“It is just about getting that consistency and being cute at the right times.

“I think we will get it right. We just need to keep plugging away.”

Jackson, who scored his first St Mirren goal in the 4-1 defeat by Aberdeen at Pittodrie in October, is not reading too much into Saints’ league position

He said: “I don’t think you should be looking at it too much.

“A lot of teams are going in and out of form.

“When I first signed Hibs were at the top and now they are (not), there is a lot of topsy-turvy and it is just about getting momentum and consistency at the right time.

“So we are not focusing on that at the minute, we are just looking to try to come into some form.”
