Alen Halilovic scores winner as Sporting Gijon defeat Malaga

Alen Halilovic scores the only goal of the game as Sporting Gijon overcome Malaga 1-0 in La Liga.

Alen Halilovic scored the only goal of the game as Sporting Gijon defeated Malaga in La Liga this evening.

Gijon started the match strongly, with Halilovic striking over from the edge of the area in the 13th minute.

Jony thought that he had given Gijon the lead a minute later but his goal was ruled out for offside.

Arthur Boka then had a chance at the other end but Pichu Cuellar made a diving save to keep out his long-range shot.

That save proved to be important as Barcelona loanee Halilovic opened the scoring on the half-hour mark when his shot nestled inside the left post for what proved to be the winning goal.

Miguel Guerrero had a go from 30 yards but Kameni was in the right place to limit Gijon's advantage, while Juan Carlos headed the ball over the bar after 61 minutes before Fabio Espinho shot wide.

Halilovic received the ball inside the penalty area in the 81st minute but his first-time shot struck the crossbar.

The result sees Gijon rise to 12th in the La Liga table.
