Comfortable start for Spain at Under-20 World Cup

Comfortable start for Spain

Spain have made a strong start to their Under-20 World Cup campaign, recording a 4-1 win over the USA in Turkey this evening.

The Americans made an aggressive start, with Luis Gil looking to pick out Jose Villarreal inside the opening two minutes.

However, it was the Spaniards that took the lead in the fifth minute, with Gerard Deulofeu breaking down the wing before crossing into the box for Jese, who tapped the ball in.

Spain continued to look comfortable in the first half, regularly testing Cody Cropper in the USA goal before Deulofeu doubled their lead shortly before half time with a curling effort from the edge of the box.

Jese was able to complete his brace in the 43rd minute, with Suso breaking from midfield to set the Real Madrid winger up for a simple chip into the net.

Spain did not look as dangerous in the opening spell of the second half, but were able to extend their advantage 15 minutes after the restart, as Deulofeu found Cropper out of his goal, and smashed the ball into an empty net.

Gil was able to get the Americans on the board with less than 20 minutes remaining, creating the chance himself after picking up the ball in midfield before firing it in from the edge of the penalty area.

Cropper had to remain sharp late on with Deulofeu looking for his hat-trick, but the United States' defenders were able to prevent their opponents from adding a fifth goal.
