Dani Carvajal's Spain hopes dashed

Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal will not travel with Spain to the World Cup this summer after Atletico Madrid's Juanfran came through last night's friendly against El Salvador unscathed.

It had been claimed that La Roja boss Vicente del Bosque was considering handing the youngster a place in the squad following a niggling muscular injury for Juanfran.

However, the Atletico right-back suffered no ill effects in the 2-0 win over El Salvador at the FedEx field on Saturday, with his place in the squad now assured.

Spain open their World Cup Group B campaign against Netherlands next Friday.
