Spain are on the verge of exiting the Olympic Games thanks to their 1-0 deficit at the break in their match against Honduras.

Spain are just 45 minutes away from being knocked out of the Olympic Games at the Sports Direct Arena.

They currently trail Honduras by a goal to nil following an opening half where they struggled to create too many goalscoring chances against their centrally American-based opponents.

Following a bright start to the encounter, the Hondurans took the lead with eight minutes on the clock when Jerry Bengtson stole in to shoot past David de Gea in the Spanish goal.

Instead of sitting on their lead, Honduras continued to attack Spain in search of a second goal. Their best two chances fell to Mario Martinez, but both were palmed to safety by De Gea.

Chelsea's Juan Mata had Spain's best opportunities to draw level. However, the attacker was unable to keep his efforts on target.
