Brown: 'Premier League team wanted Bentley'

Southend United manager Phil Brown has revealed that the club rejected a bid from a Premier League team for goalkeeper Daniel Bentley on transfer deadline day.

The 21-year-old kept 19 clean sheets during the 2013-14 season to help the club reach the League Two playoffs.

Brown told the Southend Echo: "We had what I would call a sizeable offer from a Premier League club for Daniel Bentley on transfer deadline day and we turned it down.

"We didn't feel the deal was right for us or Daniel at this stage and I'm delighted that he's still with us."

Bentley was recently linked with a call-up to the England Under-21 squad.
