Mauricio Pochettino backs Luke Shaw for World Cup spot

Mauricio Pochettino believes that Luke Shaw is good enough to be in Roy Hodgson's England squad for the World Cup.

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that young left-back Luke Shaw would not look out of place in Roy Hodgson's England squad for the World Cup in Brazil this summer.

Shaw came off the bench to play 45 minutes for England against Denmark on Wednesday and his manager said that it was a big moment for both player and club.

"I thought it was an amazing moment for him, for Southampton in general and also especially for all the managers he has had in the youth teams and academy," Sky Sports News quotes Pochettino as saying.

"To see a child from 10 years old to actually making his international debut has to be a moment of great satisfaction and great pride.

"I don't know what is going on through Roy's mind at the moment regarding Luke Shaw but, in light of the 45 minutes he played against Denmark, I think that he showed that he deserves to be in the team. He definitely showed that he has the quality to be in that team."

Manchester United are reportedly considering a summer transfer swoop for Shaw.
