Saints agree deal for Dutch defender

Southampton have agreed a deal to sign Dutch defender Alexander Buttner, according to Vitesse Arnhem.

Arnhem posted a statement on their website today claiming they have reached a deal with Southampton that will see the left-back move to St. Mary's.

Buttner has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs this summer, including Fulham and Queens Park Rangers.

The versatile 23-year-old, who can play anywhere down the left, was named in Holland's provisional squad for Euro 2012.

Buttner could make his debut alongside record signing Jay Rodriguez in a daunting opening league game against Manchester City on August 19.
