Virgil van Dijk: 'It feels amazing to score for Southampton'

Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk expresses his delight at scoring his first goal for the club, and insists that there are more to come.

Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk has expressed his delight at scoring his first goal for the club in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old scored the opening goal in his side's 3-1 victory over Swansea City on Saturday afternoon, and the former Celtic man insists there will be more headed goals to come at St Mary's.

"I'm very pleased. It's been a dream come true already by playing in the Premier League," Van Dijk told the club's official website. "But scoring my first goal feels amazing and to get the three points as well makes it even better.

"If you look at my height I should be dangerous every time. We practice it a lot. It was the perfect example, I think, of a great corner and finish. It's been very good and I'm very happy with it.

"It's good to get the win, especially at home against a team who is competing with us for a European place."

Southampton will take on Chelsea on Saturday, October 3.
