Nigel Adkins claims that Southampton want to win the FA Cup as much as the Championship.

Southampton boss Nigel Adkins has said that his side want to go on to win the FA Cup as well as earn promotion to the Premier League.

The Saints boss, who admits that he must consider the club's upcoming league matches when he selects his side, has dismissed suggestions that his team are not as interested in winning the FA Cup as much as the Championship.

"We have got ourselves into a great position in that we are second in the league, and we want to go and win this race," he told the club's official website.

"The FA Cup is a great historical competition and one which has been good to Southampton in the past and we will want to win it.

"I have a few questions I will be asking myself on how I get the right team selection with that in mind, along with the fact that we have big games coming up next Tuesday and Saturday."

Meanwhile, Southampton have slipped to second place in the Championship, three points behind leaders West Ham United.
