Southampton paired with Midtjylland

Southampton draw Midtjylland in the Europa League playoffs.

Southampton have been paired with Danish outfit Midtjylland for their Europa League playoff tie later this month.

The Saints, embarking on their first European adventure since 1981, beat Vitesse 2-0 in Arnhem last night to complete a resounding 5-0 aggregate victory.

They must now negotiate a two-legged affair with their Danish counterparts before booking their spot in the group stages.

Ronald Koeman's side were England's only representative in the draw after West Ham United went out 4-3 on aggregate to Astra Giurgiu last night.

Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool were handed byes into the group stage after finishing fifth and sixth in the Premier League last season.

Elsewhere, 2013 Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund have been paired alongside Norwegian side Odds Ballklubb.

All ties will begin on August 20 and finish one week later.
