Slovakia cruise past Luxembourg

Slovakia cruise past Luxembourg

Slovakia scored all their goals in the first half as they eased to a 3-0 win over Luxembourg in their Euro 2016 qualifier this evening.

It did not take the hosts long to break the deadlock as Jan Durica fired the ball into the box from a free kick, setting up Adam Nemec to rifle the ball into the top corner from the centre of the area.

Slovakia continued to dominate the possession, and doubled their lead with just over 20 minutes on the clock as Juraj Kucka crossed the ball in from the right to leave Vladimir Weiss with a simple tap-in from close range.

Luxembourg's best chance of the first half fell to Maurice Deville when he tried to head the ball in from a corner, but the striker's effort was stopped by Matus Kozacik.

Slovakia extended their advantage further before the break as Peter Pekarik found himself in space in the box after Tomas Hubocan played a through-ball in, leaving the defender to slot it into the bottom corner.

Chances were scarce early in the second half, but Kozacik had to stay alert in the Slovakia goal as Lars Gerson tried to give the visitors some hope.

Martin Skrtel tried to create a fourth for the hosts late on, winning a free kick in a promising position, but Slovakia were unable to capitalise.

The result keeps Slovakia at the top of the table with a 100% record, while Luxembourg stay bottom in Group C.
