Sheffield United to receive double injury boost ahead of Arsenal clash?

Sheffield United to receive double injury boost ahead of Arsenal clash?

Sheffield United are reportedly preparing to welcome Ben Brereton Diaz and George Baldock back into the matchday squad for the visit of title-chasers Arsenal on Monday night.

The Blades are currently firmly rooted to the bottom of the Premier League standings, behind 19th-placed Burnley on goal difference and 11 points adrift of Nottingham Forest in 17th.

Mikel Arteta's Gunners will provide the opposition for United on Monday night, with the North Londoners gunning for the top-flight crown versus the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.

Chris Wilder's men have lost four of their last five Premier League matches, including back-to-back 5-0 defeats at Bramall Lane to Aston Villa and Brighton & Hove Albion.

According to the Sheffield Star, Sheffield United are in line for a double injury boost ahead of a difficult assignment against Arsenal on Monday.

The report claims that Brereton Diaz could make his return to the side for the first time since the five-goal thrashing at the hands of Unai Emery's Villa on February 3.

Having joined on loan for the remainder of the season from La Liga side Villarreal, the Chilean netted two times in his first three Premier League appearances before suffering a hamstring injury.

The former Blackburn Rovers man has been operating mostly on the left flank since swapping Spain for Yorkshire but missed matches against Luton Town, Brighton and Wolverhampton Wanderers recently.

More good news on the injury front arrives in the form of defender George Baldock, who could be in contention for the Arsenal clash after a spell on the sidelines with a muscle injury.

The Greece international sustained the issue following the 2-0 defeat to Pep Guardiola's Man City at the Etihad Stadium on December 30 and has not featured since.

A possible return of the 30-year-old will provide much-needed depth and competition for places at right-back - a position that Jayden Bogle has enjoyed uncontested for a number of weeks.

The Blades possess the poorest defensive record in the Premier League this season, with a combination of Wes Foderingham and Ivo Grbic conceding an eye-watering 66 goals in 26 top-flight matches.

Aiming to keep a first clean sheet since the narrow 1-0 success over Thomas Frank's Brentford on December 9, Sheffield United will attempt to halt the Arsenal juggernaut on Monday night.
