Seattle ease to away win over Chivas

Seattle Sounders bounced back from their 4-0 defeat at the hands of Los Angeles Galaxy with a 2-0 away win over Chivas USA in the MLS.

The hosts threatened early as Jose Correa found a way through the Seattle defence, but his left-footed shot was well saved by Michael Gspurning.

The Sounders responded to this threat and duly took the lead through Obafemi Martins as he collected Mario Martinez's flick, drove into the box and lifted a shot over Dan Kennedy into the net.

Seattle doubled their advantage in the 33rd minute in bizarre fashion as Mario De Luna headed the ball into his own net past Kennedy from Mauro Rosales's cross.

Martins was denied his second goal just before half time when Kennedy produced a good stop to prevent his headed effort finding the net.

After the break, the Sounders reduced to 10 men when Martins was sent off for an apparent stamp Gabriel Farfan, although replays suggested that contact was accidental.

Chivas looked to get back in the game and almost did so in the 88th minute when Tristan Bowen fired a shot at goal, but Gspurning made a good fingertip save to tip his effort round the post to seal the win for the Sounders.
