Russia head coach Stanislav Cherchesov insists that his players are "ready to stop" Egypt talisman Mohamed Salah when the two sides lock horns in the World Cup.

Russia head coach Stanislav Cherchesov has claimed that his players are "ready to stop" Egypt talisman Mohamed Salah when the two sides lock horns in the World Cup on Tuesday night.

The Liverpool forward was an unused substitute for the Pharaohs' 1-0 loss to Uruguay in their first Group A game.

However, Salah is expected to start against the hosts in St Petersburg following his recovery from a shoulder injury.

Russia enjoyed a superb opening day to their tournament, running out 5-0 winners against Saudi Arabia, and their boss insists that Salah will be kept at bay in their second game.

"We are studying Egypt and we should be able to exploit their weaknesses," Cherchesov is quoted by the Daily Mail as saying.

"I have a simple answer: We are ready to stop Salah and we will do this.

"God willing, he'll be fit and entertain the fans. He's the kind of player who lights up games and tournaments like this."

Salah has scored 33 goals for Egypt, while the remainder of his nation's 23-man squad in Russia have netted that same number between them.
