Russia manager Stanislav Cherchesov and his coaching team are to stay on for at least two more years after agreeing fresh terms.

Stanislav Cherchesov has agreed to stay on as manager of Russia for a further two years after reaching an agreement with the Russian Football Union.

The 54-year-old and his coaching staff, who defied expectations by guiding the host nation to the World Cup quarter-finals, were due to be out of contract next month.

Following Russia's magical run to the last eight on home soil, however, Cherchesov and his team have been rewarded with new deals, with the option to further extend them through until the 2022 World Cup.

Aleksandr Alaev, the acting head of the RFU, said: "Stanislav Cherchesov and his team have the complete trust of the federation. We anticipate bright victories and significant achievements ahead for the Russian team."

Russia were eventually knocked out of this summer's finals by Croatia on penalties.
