The home side were looking to end a run of three games without a win but came up against stubborn resistance from Steve Eyre's men, who themselves have now not won in eight in the league.

Early on, Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro almost gave the visitors the lead but shot just wide from the edge of the area after a mazy run.

Tranmere began to impose themselves as the opening period unfolded, and Ash Taylor should've done better with his close range header but found the gloves of Peter Kurucz.

After the break, Rovers subsitute Joss Labadie saw his free kick take a deflection before connecting with the outside of the far post.

Les Parry's men travel to Bournemouth in their next fixture while Dale make the trip to fellow strugglers Wycombe Wanderers.
