Republic of Ireland 0-0 Croatia

Republic of Ireland 0-0 Croatia

The Republic of Ireland earned a goalless draw against an in-form Croatian side at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

Both sides created few chances throughout, but Croatia always looked the more in control with good spells of possession.

The visitors had two penalty appeals turned down in the first half when former Arsenal striker Eduardo was pulled back by Glenn Whelan, and later when Ivan Strinic was bundled over by Stephen Kelly. However, both appeals were waved away by the referee.

The hosts' best opportunities came with a Shane Long header, which was saved by Stipe Pletikosa, and a mis-timed header from Richard Dunne.

The Republic next face Slovakia and Russia in Euro 2012 qualifiers at the beginning of next month.
