Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has claimed that there is "too much value" placed on a guard of honour.
Last week, Zinedine Zidane said that Real would not give rivals Barcelona a guard of honour if the Catalan giants have won the La Liga title before their May showdown at Camp Nou.
However, Ramos has dismissed suggestions that Real would be showing Barcelona a lack of respect, saying that the gesture should not be regarded as important.
The 32-year-old is quoted by Marca as saying: "Not performing a guard of honour doesn't mean we don't respect Barcelona.
"I've always said that we'll do what the coach tells us to. People put too much value on the guard of honour, if the boss has said no then we have to respect him."
Barcelona are yet to taste defeat in La Liga this season and hold an 11-point lead at the top of the table.
