Real Madrid team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Barcelona

Real Madrid injury, suspension list vs. Barcelona

Real Madrid will be looking to bounce back from Wednesday's disappointing defeat to Manchester City when they welcome Barcelona to the Bernabeu on Sunday afternoon.

Zinedine Zidane's side suffered a 2-1 loss to City in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League clash but cannot afford to dwell on the result as they prepare to host their bitter rivals in La Liga.

Madrid, who also lost at Levante in the league last weekend, are currently second in the table, two points behind Barca ahead of El Clasico.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Madrid's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the key contest in the Spanish capital.

Marco Asensio

Status: Out Type of injury: Knee Possible return date: Unknown

Marco Asensio remains on the sidelines with the serious knee injury that he picked up during the team's preparations for the 2019-20 campaign. The Spaniard is making positive progress in his recovery, though, and could potentially return to action at some point in March.

Eden Hazard

Status: Out Type of injury: Ankle Possible return date: Unknown

Eden Hazard limped off during Saturday's clash with Levante having suffered a recurrence of his ankle injury. The Belgium international was playing for just the second time since returning from a long-term problem, but Zidane has admitted that the attacker could now miss the remainder of the season.

REAL MADRID'S SUSPENSION LIST

Madrid have no players suspended for the league contest. Club captain Sergio Ramos was handed a red card against City on Wednesday night, but the suspension only relates to the Champions League.
