Odds shorten on Ferdinand joining QPR

The odds on Queens Park Rangers securing the services of Rio Ferdinand this summer have shortened over the past 24 hours.

Ferdinand, 35, is a free agent following confirmation that his contract would not be renewed at Manchester United following 12 years at Old Trafford.

A move to the MLS had been mooted, but after QPR sealed a return to the Premier League yesterday afternoon thanks to a 1-0 win over Derby County in the final of the Championship playoffs, they have been strongly linked with the centre-back's signature.

Most bookmakers have made a switch to Loftus Road a 5/2 shot, while a transfer to an American club is regarded as evens.

Ferdinand has previous with QPR manager Harry Redknapp, who gave the former England international his senior debut at West Ham United in 1996.
