Joey Barton thanks Queens Park Rangers supporters

Joey Barton praises Queens Park Rangers supporters for sticking by him "through thick and thin", as he calls time on his four-year spell at the club.

Outgoing skipper Joey Barton has urged Queens Park Rangers supporters to stick by their side, as they look to secure a quick return to the top flight.

The R's announced earlier today that the 32-year-old would not be offered a fresh contract on the back of their recent relegation.

Barton, who made 99 appearances for QPR during his time in West London, has now turned to Twitter to thank the club's fanbase.

"I just want to put on record my sincere thanks to the chairman and board, the managers I've played under and my teammates that I've played with during my time at the club," he said.

"I was devastated that we went down this season but I can hold my head high knowing I gave 100% every single time I pulled on the blue and white hoops, and hope with everything that the club can bounce back up straight away.

"Finally, I want to thank the fans. You've stuck with me through thick and thin and I'll always remember the support you've shown me through difficult times. I'll never forget that amazing day at Wembley last May and I wish you all every success in the future. With your support the club has the right foundation to bounce back."

Rio Ferdinand, Brian Murphy, Richard Dunne, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Bobby Zamora have also been shown the Loftus Road exit.
