The agent of Marco Verratti has revealed that Paris Saint-Germain refused to allow his client a release clause in his new contract.
The 20-year-old, who agreed a new deal with the Ligue 1 champions last week, had been linked with a return to Italy this summer.
"We asked for a release clause, but PSG said no," Donato di Campli told Radio Toscana. "Napoli had enquired, but I never talked about a 'monstrous' offer.
"The renewal was then a logical consequence of the French club not wanting to sell him, putting him at the centre of their project."
AC Milan had also been linked with a move for the playmaker.
