Half-Time Report: Preston North End reduce early Rotherham United lead

Rotherham United score twice in the opening 10 minutes but are pegged back by League One playoff rivals Preston North End to lead 2-1 after 45 minutes at Deepdale.

Rotherham United hold a 2-1 half-time lead over playoff rivals Preston North End at Deepdale.

The Millers scored twice in the opening quarter-of-an-hour, but were pegged back before the break courtesy of Craig Davies's goal for the hosts.

It took United just seven minutes to open the scoring as James Tavernier played the ball into the path of Lee Frecklington, who took one touch before firing into the roof of the net for his eighth of the season.

Their advantage was doubled moments later as Ben Pringle's free kick was flicked into his own net by Tom Clarke, and Rotherham's top goalscorer Kieran Agard, who has found the net 13 times this term, nearly added a third when he stretched to intercept a short headed backpass from Bailey Wright.

North End were forced to defend for much of the opening period, but they reduced the deficit eight minutes prior to the interval when Paul Gallagher back-heeled for Davies to poke under Adam Collin.

Both sides are currently unbeaten in seven League One games.
