Smoke grenade explodes near Lewandowski

Poland's 2018 World Cup qualification clash away to Romania on Friday night had to be suspended for 10 minutes after a smoke grenade exploded near Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski.

The incident occurred in the 54th minute of the Group E clash, with television images showing the smoke grenade land just one yard away from the centre-forward.

Lewandowski received treatment before struggling to his feet, and the 28-year-old went on to score twice in the final 10 minutes as Poland recorded a 3-0 victory in Bucharest.

Both sets of supporters clashed during the World Cup qualifier, with flares thrown onto the pitch and into the stands in a match that is expected to lead to FIFA sanctions.
