Gordon Taylor stirs up controversy by comparing Ched Evans case to Hillsborough

PFA boss Gordon Taylor courts controversy by drawing comparisons between the Ched Evans case and the Hillsborough disaster.

Professional Footballers' Association chief executive Gordon Taylor has caused controversy by drawing comparisons between the Ched Evans case and the Hillsborough disaster.

The convicted rapist, whose proposed move to Oldham Athletic recently collapsed, continues to maintain his innocence and the PFA boss has offered him support.

"He wouldn't have been the first person to be found guilty, maintained their innocence and been proved right. We know what happened with Hillsborough," Taylor told BBC Sport.

"It's now unravelling and very different to how it was portrayed at the time - indeed by the police at the time."

Taylor went on to concede that it will be "very difficult" for Evans to return to football after Oldham's U-turn.

New inquests are currently being held to establish how 96 Liverpool fans lost their lives in the 1989 stadium disaster after the original verdict of accidental death was quashed by the High Court in 2012.
