Scottish Football League propose revamp of league system

SFL propose revamp of league system

The Scottish Football League have proposed a new three-tier system that would merge the SFL and the Scottish Premier League.

All 30 SFL clubs have voted in favour of the revamp, but agreement is still needed from the Scottish Premier League and the Scottish Football Association.

The top flight would be renamed the Premier Division, with the Championship and Third Division below in a tier of 16, 10 and 16 teams for the 2014-15 season.

However, it is understood that top-tier clubs are against the idea and therefore gaining the 11-1 majority needed could be a major task.

Meanwhile, the SFL are also reportedly proposing a new format for the Scottish League Cup.
