Premier League clubs are able to negotiate short-term contract extensions with players whose current deals expire on June 30.

Premier League clubs will be allowed to negotiate short-term contract extensions with players whose current deals expire on June 30.

The suspension of football due to the coronavirus pandemic has seen the majority of football leagues across the globe put on hold since March.

With the Premier League seeking a plan to restart the current 2019-20 campaign and resume behind closed doors, after the UK Government indicated its willingness for elite sport to return from June 1, players from all 20 clubs are now able to sign short-term deals until the end of the season, whenever that may be.

"What we decided is to ensure, as far as possible, that clubs complete the season with the same squad they had available, prior to the suspension of the campaign," Premier League chief executive Richard Masters revealed in a statement.

"Players can extend their contracts beyond June 30 until the end of the season, but it must be agreed by both parties."

Every Premier League club will now have until June 23 to agree these extensions with their players.
