Michel Platini 'backed by football chiefs to stand for FIFA presidency'

UEFA president Michel Platini reportedly receives the backing of the majority of football chiefs to run for the FIFA presidency.

UEFA president Michel Platini has reportedly been backed by the majority of world football chiefs to stand for the FIFA presidency.

The executive committee is due to consider a new election date after current president Sepp Blatter announced his intention in June to stand down amid corruption allegations.

According to BBC Sport, Platini's own confederation, as well as Asia, the Caribbean, South America, North and Central America have asked the 60-year-old to put his name forward.

However, it is believed that Platini, who became UEFA president in 2007, is yet to decide whether or not to stand.

FIFA is being investigated by the US and Swiss authorities over allegations of bribery, money laundering and racketeering.
