The Football Association are taking strides to change attitudes towards homosexuality in sport by encouraging a "so what?" culture.
The governing body are aiming to provide support for gay footballers as well as impose sanctions on any individual found guilty of homophobia within the game.
The late Justin Fashanu remains the only openly gay footballer, and while the FA are keen to encourage players to come out, England managing director Adrian Bevington has stressed that the campaign will not force individuals to make their sexuality public.
"We want to ensure that if any player wishes to be open about their sexuality, then they can do it with the full support of the FA," said Bevington. "We want a 'So what?' culture in football."
The Professional Footballers' Association have ordered awareness posters to be sent to all clubs up and down the country.
