Morten Olsen signs a contract extension with the Danish national team until after the 2014 World Cup.

Morten Olsen has penned a new contract that will see remain in charge of the Danish national team until after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

In 2010 the 62-year-old signed a deal which saw him through to the conclusion of next year's European Championships in Poland and Ukraine.

The former Ajax and Brondby coach announced at the time that he would step down from his position once that agreement expired.

However, he has now revealed that support from the current squad sparked a change of heart.

"My decision to stop after the European Championships next summer was the right thing at the moment," Olsen told the Danish Football Association website. "We had embarked on a new chapter for the national team after the World Cup finals.

"During the summer I got calls from both established and newer players in the team, who asked me to reconsider. It was a necessary support from the players to both me as coach and to our common project.

"It gave me a good feeling that together we were doing something really good in the national team."

Olsen has been in charge of Denmark since 2000.
