Ards chairman Brian Adams condemns sectarian chanting during Cliftonville loss

The chairman of Ards Football Club, Brian Adams, has condemned sectarian chanting during their Irish League Cup loss to Cliftonville and said those involved will be banned.

A small number of people in the home end at Clandeboye Park chanted a sectarian song after Cliftonville supporters sang 'Happy Birthday' to an away supporter dressed as the Pope.

Adams told UTV: "This was a small handful of idiots - maybe about 10 people at most.

"They are not football fans and certainly not Ards supporters and they will be banned.

"This is disappointing because we have a very good relationship with Cliftonville."

The Northern Ireland Football League said that it would not take any action until they see the officials' match report.
