Outgoing UEFA president Michel Platini to address Congress despite ban

Banned Platini to address UEFA Congress

UEFA has confirmed that outgoing president Michel Platini will address Congress on Wednesday, despite serving a ban from all football-related activity.

The Frenchman, who has been implicated in allegations of widespread corruption in FIFA, will deliver a speech before his successor is elected in Athens.

A statement from the European governing body read: "A request for Mr Platini's attendance had been recently made by UEFA and we welcome this decision."

Dutchman Michael van Praag and Slovenian FA president Aleksander Ceferin are in the running for the presidency.
