Accrington Stanley defender in stable condition

Accrington Stanley defender Thomas Bender is in a stable condition, according to Sky Sports News.

The 18-year-old's injury led to the second round Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie with Tranmere Rovers being abandoned.

Bender, who is on loan at the Crown Ground from Colchester United, collided with Stanley keeper Ian Dunbavin and Rovers striker Lucas Akins.

He was on a drip as he left in an ambulance, but officials said he was "showing signs of coming around".
