Johan Cruyff wants Frank Rijkaard as Netherlands boss

Johan Cruyff wants to see Frank Rijkaard named as the new manager of Netherlands.

Dutch legend Johan Cruyff wants Frank Rijkaard to become the next manager of the Netherlands national side.

The Oranje endured an abysmal Euro 2012 and lost all three of their Group B matches despite being touted as the pre-tournament favourites.

Bert van Marwijk resigned as manager of the nation following their failure at the competition, and Cruyff wants to see Rijkaard named as the man to try to lead the Netherlands to success.

"Rijkaard has proved at the highest level what his qualities are and he has dared to make radical changes," said Cruyff. "Working at club level is different from a national team, but the point is that the new coach must put in process a period of renewal.

"The Dutch team must start again with a new staff and changes to the players. The question is whether Frank wants it. I do not know.

"In any case, I hope the KNVB make a wise choice, because we still have many good players available, especially in attack. We must build towards the World Cup to produce something beautiful."

Rijkaard has managed his country once before between 1998 and 2000.
