Steve Morison extends his Millwall contract until 2019 after triggering an appearance-based 12-month extension clause.

Millwall striker Steve Morison has extended his contract at The Den until 2019.

The 34-year-old played his 20th Championship game of the season on Saturday, which triggered an appearance-based 12-month extension clause.

Morison is highly revered at Millwall, having played more than 250 times for the Lions and scored 86 goals, including the winner in last season's League One playoff final.

The Welshman told the club website: "Some of the best football I have played has been at Millwall and the last couple of years have been unbelievable."

Millwall boss Neil Harris added: "His experience and leadership is pivotal to this club.

"His performances this year have been very, very good. He has picked up where he had last year and although he hasn't had the goal tally that we would like, his role is a little bit different this season.

"Where last year he was a talisman for goals, now he is our talisman for our attacking shape and a focal point. His knowledge of the game and what he can pass on to the younger players is really key."

Morison has also played for Northampton Town, Stevenage, Norwich City and Leeds United.
