Report: Man Utd's Ighalo loan talks reach impasse

Manchester United have reportedly reached an impasse in their talks with Shanghai Shenhua over extending Odion Ighalo's loan deal.

The Nigerian striker joined United on a short-term contract in the January transfer window and has made a positive impression at Old Trafford.

Ighalo has bolstered Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's attacking options by scoring four times in eight appearances, but his contract only runs until the end of this month.

United have been pushing to prolong the deal until the end of the Premier League season, which has been extended past its usual end date due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, the Evening Standard reports that Shenhua have knocked back the Red Devils' request as they instead want to offload Ighalo permanently for £20m.

Solskjaer's side are not expected to go that high with their offer, it is suggested, meaning that the two clubs are at a deadlock.

Ighalo is eager to stay on at United until at least the end of the season, but Gary Neville has warned his former club about overpaying for the striker.
