Report: Carrick wants to stay at United

Michael Carrick has reportedly informed Manchester United chiefs that he wants to stay beyond the end of the season, amid growing interest from a number of clubs.

The long-serving midfielder, recently rewarded with a testimonial thanks to a decade's service, is said to be on the radar of Premier League sides West Bromwich Albion and Leicester City.

Championship outfit Aston Villa are also rumoured to be keeping a close eye on the situation, as Carrick struggles for playing time in his 12th season at Old Trafford, not helped by a troublesome injury picked up last month.

Despite the lure of first-team football elsewhere, ESPN claims that the 34-cap England international is hopeful of remaining at the club for at least another year by putting pen to paper on a contract extension.

Carrick has featured just once in all competitions for United this term, coming against Burton Albion in the EFL Cup on September 20.
