Ander Herrera pays Athletic Bilbao buyout clause to join Manchester United

Herrera pays his buyout clause

Athletic Bilbao have confirmed that midfielder Ander Herrera has paid his own buyout clause in order to facilitate a move to Manchester United.

The 24-year-old's proposed move to Old Trafford appeared to hit a stumbling block when the La Liga club rejected a bid of around £29m this week.

However, the transfer is back on after the Spanish club confirmed that Herrera has bought out his contract, which contained a release clause in the region of £30m.

Reports have claimed that Herrera has already passed a medical and agreed terms with the former Premier League champions.

The move seems all but confirmed after Herrera changed his Twitter profile to a photo of him standing alongside Sir Bobby Charlton holding a United shirt.
