Ryan Giggs considering retirement

Ryan Giggs says that he is considering retiring from football but could yet sign a new deal with Manchester United.

Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs has revealed that he will decide on his playing future in the summer and hasn't ruled out retiring.

The 39-year-old has been signing one-year contract extensions for several years now, and a repeated deal at the end of the season would see the former Wales captain playing into his 40s.

Giggs, who has made 16 appearances for United so far this campaign, believes that his fitness has to be in top form if he is to renew his current deal.

When asked if he could retire, Giggs told the Sunday People: "I will see how I feel and see how I am contributing, and then I will sit down and talk to the manager.

"I am cool with that. I am enjoying my football at the moment, but the end of the season is a few months away and you never know what will happen. I have to contribute as well as enjoying both training and playing.

"In a way I suppose I get an easier ride than some of the younger lads, and that's because the manager recognises I have different needs at this point. But don't get me wrong, my fitness has to be spot on, otherwise I just couldn't compete with the rest of the guys either in training or during matches."

United host West Ham United in their FA Cup third-round replay on Wednesday.
