Everton are allegedly pushing to secure a loan deal for Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga until the end of the season.

Everton have reportedly set their sights on securing a loan deal for Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga.

Despite an encouraging start to the season, the Toffees have since tailed off, winning just one of their last 12 games in all competitions.

Although they recently posted a 1-1 draw at Manchester City, the other four of their last five league matches have ended in defeat, and Frank Lampard's side now sit in the Premier League relegation zone.

Furthermore, the Merseyside outfit possess the third worst attacking record in the division, scoring just 14 goals in their 18 fixtures.

As a result, there is a desire to make additions for the final third during the January transfer window, the feeling being that Everton may have to target loan deals unless they part ways with a number of fringe members.

Everton have already got Salomon Rondon off the wage bill, while they cashed in on Nathan Broadhead earlier this week with the recent Wigan Athletic loanee making the permanent switch to Ipswich Town.

Nevertheless, more departures must follow, and it has seemingly left Everton in a position where they are targeting at least one temporary signing.

According to the Daily Mail, Everton have upped their interest in trying to secure the signature of Elanga, who has been reduced to a bit-part role at Old Trafford.

The Sweden international has made seven starts and 11 substitute appearances in all competitions during 2022-23, chipping in with one assist.

Although the 20-year-old played 84 minutes of Tuesday's EFL Cup tie versus Charlton Athletic, it represented his longest time on the pitch in United colours all season.

The report suggests that Erik ten Hag is currently considering whether he wants Elanga to remain as part of his squad for the rest of the season, or if he feels that he will benefit from a period away from Old Trafford.

Everton are no strangers to negotiating deals with their United counterparts having signed Donny van de Beek and James Garner over the past 12 months.

United are currently bidding to strengthen their forward options with the addition of Wout Weghorst, although the Burnley forward will only be considered for a spot down the middle of the attack.
